01Context

Luyia was a Minecraft mini-games server open to the community. The goal: offer several game modes on a single infrastructure, with leaderboards, an economy and rewards shared between games.

02Role

Plugin developer and server administrator. I wrote the mini-games, player management and the infrastructure tying it all together.

03Architecture

Plugins are written in Java and built with Gradle. Several server instances run in parallel behind a proxy, one per game mode. Redis syncs player state across instances (sessions, queues, messages), and MySQL keeps durable data: statistics, economy, leaderboards.

04Learnings

My first real distributed system, without knowing it: several processes sharing state through Redis and needing to stay consistent. Running a public server also teaches a lot about moderation, performance and availability.
